Political activist Aisha Yesufu has advised British-Nigerian politician Kemi Badenoch to let go of her preoccupation with Nigeria.

Badenoch’s recent remarks about Nigeria have sparked significant controversy, leading Vice President Kashim Shettima to accuse her of undermining the nation.

During a recent interview, a British journalist asked Badenoch if she trusted the British police.

In her response, she stated, “I do. My experience with the Nigerian Police was very negative. However, my experience with the British Police has been very positive.”

Badenoch went on to recount an incident where police officers in Nigeria allegedly took her brother’s shoe and watch, though she did not provide further details about this experience.

Aisha Yesufu criticized Badenoch for bringing up Nigeria in her response, arguing that it was irrelevant to the journalist’s question about trust in the British police. “Kemi Badenoch @KemiBadenoch should grow up and move on! Context is everything! She was asked if she trusts the British police.

What happened with Nigerian police has no bearing on her trust in British policing. And why bring up our poverty?” Yesufu questioned.

She further stated, “If the UK does not create an environment that allows individuals to exploit Nigeria’s resources for personal gain, then Nigeria’s poverty should not be linked to their narrative.

Just because standards may be lower in Nigeria doesn’t mean she should diminish the standards expected of British police. She shouldn’t let her experiences in Nigeria color her perceptions of policing in the UK.”

Additionally, Yesufu called on the Nigeria Police Force to enhance their performance. “@PoliceNG, you see your life? Always embarrassing us!” she remarked.
