Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has highlighted the achievements of his administration during the 59th National Conference of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU).
Addressing the Ilorin community, the governor commended the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, and other stakeholders for their unwavering support and cooperation.
Governor AbdulRazaq lauded IEDPU’s contributions to peace and development, emphasizing the union’s role in fostering harmony within and beyond the Emirate. He showcased his administration’s strides under the Urban Renewal Initiative, which has seen significant upgrades to roads and infrastructure in Ilorin and other parts of Kwara State.
“We are proudly transforming Ilorin’s landscape,” the governor said. “From Sulu-Gambari Road to Oja Oba, Balogun Fulani to Gambari, Ibrahim Taiwo Road to General Roundabout, and many others, Ilorin now stands alongside Nigeria’s leading capitals. Our urban renewal efforts are extending to other areas, including Offa, with the reconstruction of the Ibrahim Taiwo Road.”
Key Development Projects
Governor AbdulRazaq outlined various projects aimed at boosting economic activities and improving quality of life, including:
Dada-Okelele Pottery Revival: Revitalizing the local craft industry.
Patigi Motel Redevelopment: Reinvigorating tourism and local economic activities.
Ilorin Smart City Project: Commencing in 2025, with plans for 250 housing units in the first phase and road infrastructure development.
Kwara State University of Education, Ilorin: Set to take off in 2025, creating new educational opportunities.
The governor also emphasized the completion of 145 roads across the state since 2023, with 50 more under construction. He assured the IEDPU of his administration’s commitment to supporting its Skills Acquisition Hub, pledging assistance with equipment and facility upgrades.
At the event, IEDPU President Alhaji AbdulMumin AbdulMalik commended the government’s urban renewal projects, noting their transformative impact on Ilorin and the wider Kwara State. He urged the administration to expand infrastructure in growing communities, including roads, schools, and healthcare centres.
The chairman of the occasion, Prof. Shuaib AbdulRaheem, lauded the unity and patriotism displayed at the event, emphasizing its reflection of the Emirate’s collective aspirations.
The Balogun Gambari of Ilorin, Alhaji Mohammed Aliyu Adebayo, represented the Emir, while Ambassador Yahya Seriki, the chief launcher, donated ₦100 million to support ongoing IEDPU projects.
Governor AbdulRazaq reaffirmed his commitment to creating a prosperous Kwara State, urging citizens to remain patient as his administration tackles the challenges that come with rapid development.
