Four officials from Areago Community High School in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, have been detained following a clash between the school’s students and local residents.
The conflict erupted when residents attempting to pass through the school grounds on a commercial motorcycle were confronted by students. Tensions flared over the ongoing construction of a perimeter fence, initiated by the school’s parent-teacher association (PTA) to enhance security, as the school had become increasingly vulnerable to external disturbances.
The arrested staff members include the Vice Principal of Administration, Mr. Ajayi, along with two senior teachers, Mr. Oladeji and Mr. Adekunle, and a day guard from the school. They are currently being held at the Owode Divisional Police Station in Ogbomoso.
A teacher from the school, who requested anonymity, explained that the decision to construct the fence was crucial due to the various incidents occurring within the school’s premises as a result of its open access.
Reports indicate that efforts are underway among concerned stakeholders to amicably resolve the situation, and it is expected that the detained staff members will be released on bail soon.
