Social media critic Martins Ortse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, has labeled the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, as “incompetent.” The criticism comes in light of Olukoyede’s failure to apprehend former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello, who has been on the EFCC’s wanted list since April.
According to VeryDarkMan, the EFCC’s inability to secure Bello, despite charging him with N80.2 billion in suspected money laundering crimes during his tenure as governor, illustrates significant shortcomings in leadership. He noted that Bello had reportedly presented himself to the anti-graft agency but was released despite being wanted.
In an Instagram post on Monday, VeryDarkMan stated, “Ola Olukoyede is a symbol of incompetence and mediocrity, and I call him a clown. Why did I call him a clown? On April 18, he posted that Yahaya Bello is wanted by the EFCC, along with details of Bello’s absence stalling his arraignment.”
He further criticized the EFCC, highlighting that while over 100 individuals have been arraigned during this period, the combined monetary amounts involved do not approach the scale of Bello’s alleged fraud. “@officialefcc the clowns of all agencies tell your Chairman he is a big clown. The only grace you have is the fact that the youths are always carried away,” he added, suggesting that the agency often focuses on minor offenders while neglecting major fraud cases.
VeryDarkMan concluded his remarks by questioning the relevance of the EFCC, emphasizing the need for accountability in tackling real financial criminals.
