The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed the death of a revenue collector who was fatally struck by an articulated vehicle while attempting to collect dues from its driver.

In a statement on Sunday, LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki revealed that the incident occurred near New Garage, inbound Lagos, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The vehicle, marked FST 887 XD, fled the scene after the accident.

Bakare-Oki explained that the victim was struck while crossing the expressway and succumbed to the severe impact. LASTMA personnel quickly responded, managing the situation and removing the vehicle to ease the resulting traffic congestion.

The deceased’s remains were handed over to the Adigboluje Police Division, which is coordinating with the victim’s family to complete necessary formalities. The articulated vehicle was also turned over to the police for further investigation.

Expressing condolences to the bereaved family, Bakare-Oki urged transport unions to educate their members on safer methods of collecting dues, particularly in high-risk locations like expressways.
