Community leaders and a youth-based organization in Kwara South have expressed their gratitude to Senator Oyelola Ashiru for his ongoing solar-powered borehole project aimed at addressing water scarcity in the region.
The project, which began in October 2024, targets 18 communities across Kwara South and is part of the senator’s efforts to improve living standards for his constituents.
Residents of Araromi-Opin in Ekiti Local Government described the significant impact the project has had on their daily lives.
Omo’ba Adetunbi Lawal-Anisuloogun recounted how residents used to walk more than 500 meters to access clean drinking water before the borehole was drilled. “It’s a very good project that truly touches the lives of our local people because access to drinkable water has been a major issue in our community. This is a timely intervention from the office of the Distinguished Senate Leader,” he said.
Another resident, Shegun Adeyemi, noted that the solar-powered borehole has reduced the burden of fetching clean water and eliminated the need for generator-powered pumping, which required constant maintenance.
The Ekiti-Kwara Youth Navigators (EKYN), a youth-based organization focused on the progress of Ekiti-Kwara Local Government, also praised Senator Ashiru’s intervention.
In a statement signed by its Secretary, Ogundele Raphael Kehinde, the group highlighted the importance of the water project for communities such as Ora Aiyegbaju and Araromi-Opin, which have struggled with access to clean water for some time.
“The water projects came at the right time,” EKYN stated, while appealing to the senator’s office to extend similar interventions to other communities in Ekiti Local Government facing similar challenges in accessing clean water.
