The federal government has conveyed its willingness to collaborate with President-elect Donald Trump as he prepares to take office as the 47th President of the United States.
Speaking to State House correspondents after the postponed Federal Executive Council meeting, Minister of Information Mohammed Idris stressed Nigeria’s respect for the choices of all sovereign nations.
He underscored Nigeria’s desire to establish a “strong and mutually beneficial relationship” with the U.S. under the Trump administration. “It is their internal decision that Nigeria holds in high regard,” he noted. “As the President has indicated in the issued statement, we anticipate a fruitful working relationship with Donald Trump, the 47th President of the United States. We hope that the best aspects of the Nigeria-U.S. relationship will come to light.”
The minister also reiterated President Bola Tinubu’s dedication to democracy. “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu wishes him well and believes that democracy is once again in action. We will continue to align ourselves with the wishes and aspirations of every sovereign nation.
We respect the developments and look forward to fostering a strong working relationship with the incoming President of the United States,” he added.
