President Bola Tinubu is expected to present the 2025 national budget this week, according to the Nigerian Senate.
Senate spokesperson Yemi Adaramodu (APC, Ekiti South) disclosed this on Sunday, stating that the presentation could happen “this week or in earnest,” demonstrating the federal government’s commitment to effective fiscal planning and timely budgetary processes.
He noted that the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP), key prerequisites for the budget presentation, are currently under review by the Senate Committee on Finance.
“The Senate Committee on Finance is already working on the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework and will meet with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) tomorrow (Monday),” Adaramodu said.
MDAs are set to defend their 2024 expenditure plans while outlining projections for the 2025 budget during the ongoing review.
Last Tuesday, President Tinubu submitted the MTEF/FSP for 2025–2027 to both the Senate and the House of Representatives. In response, Senate President Godswill Akpabio directed the Senate Committee on Finance, National Planning, and Economic Affairs to review the documents and provide a report within a week.
