The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Ondo State governorship election held on Saturday.
Aiyedatiwa secured a decisive victory over his main challenger, Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), garnering a total of 366,781 votes. Ajayi, who came second, polled 117,845 votes.
Announcing the results, INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, confirmed that Aiyedatiwa emerged as the winner, having secured the majority of votes cast.
Aiyedatiwa’s triumph extended across all 18 local government areas of Ondo State. In Ifedore LG, he secured 14,157 votes compared to Ajayi’s 5,837 votes. The APC candidate continued his dominance in Ondo East LG with 8,163 votes, while the PDP’s Ajayi managed 2,843 votes. In Ile Oluji/Oke Igbo LG, Aiyedatiwa received 16,600 votes against the PDP candidate’s 4,442.
The APC candidate also led in Idanre LG with 9,114 votes, slightly edging out the PDP’s 8,940 votes. In Irele LG, he achieved another strong win, polling 17,117 votes while Ajayi secured 6,601 votes.
Aiyedatiwa’s landslide victory continued in Akoko South West LG, where he amassed 29,700 votes against Ajayi’s 5,517. In Owo LG, Aiyedatiwa recorded another triumph, receiving 31,914 votes, leaving Ajayi with 4,740 votes. His success extended to Ondo West LG, where he secured 20,755 votes compared to the PDP’s 4,740 votes.
In Akoko South East LG, Aiyedatiwa earned 12,140 votes, while Ajayi garnered 2,692. The APC candidate maintained a commanding lead in Akoko North West LG, polling 25,010 votes to Ajayi’s 5,502. In Ose LG, Aiyedatiwa’s victory was sealed with 16,555 votes, defeating Ajayi’s 4,472 votes.
Aiyedatiwa also emerged victorious in Akure South LG, polling 32,969 votes against Ajayi’s 17,928 votes. He continued his dominance in Akoko North East LG with 26,667 votes, while the PDP candidate recorded 5,072 votes.
In Okitipupa LG, Aiyedatiwa amassed 26,811 votes, with Ajayi trailing at 10,233 votes. The APC candidate secured another major win in Akure North LG with 14,451 votes to Ajayi’s 5,787 votes. In Odigbo LG, Aiyedatiwa achieved a total of 26,683 votes against Ajayi’s 9,348 votes.
Aiyedatiwa’s hometown, Ilaje LG, also witnessed a landslide victory as he garnered 24,474 votes, leaving Ajayi with 3,632 votes. In Ajayi’s local government area, Ese-Odo, Aiyedatiwa triumphed once again, polling 14,511 votes compared to Ajayi’s 7,814 votes.
