The Kwara State Government announced on Wednesday that it has reversed its earlier ban on specific vehicle categories on Ahmadu Bello Way, now permitting shuttle buses, taxis, and ride-hailing services to operate on the route that leads to the Government House.
In a statement released by the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr. Abdulquawiy Olododo, through ministry Press Secretary Olajide Abolarin, it was clarified that mini-shuttle buses, taxis, and ride-hailing vehicles can now access Ahmadu Bello Way, which is vital for key facilities such as the Government House, MDAs, and security installations.
“This clarification is necessary for public awareness,” the statement emphasized.
However, Olododo maintained that tricycles, motorcycles, and heavy-duty trucks remain banned from the route due to security concerns and the need to uphold public order.
Just last Friday, the government had imposed restrictions, instructing the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Agency to enforce the ban strictly. The prohibited vehicles included tricycles (Keke Napep), commercial motorcycles (Okada), taxis, trucks, and heavy-duty vehicles, with violators facing fines up to N50,000.
Ahmadu Bello Way, which has recently undergone rehabilitation, is a significant access route for commercial vehicles traveling to Tanke, Fate, and River Basin areas within Ilorin metropolis. The Ministry of Works and Transport has begun installing restriction signage along the corridor to notify the public.
