The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) Kwara State Command today celebrated another milestone with the presentation of trophies, medals, and certificates to distinguished participants of the recently concluded Joint Paramilitary Tournament.
This was contained in a statement released by SC Adegblugbe Philip O. (ANIPR), the Public Relations Officer of Nigerian Correctional Service in Kwara State.
The event, held on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, showcased the spirit of camaraderie, sportsmanship, and inter-agency collaboration.
The keenly contested tournament featured the following paramilitary agencies:
1. Nigeria Police Force
2. Nigerian Immigration Service
3. Nigerian Correctional Service
4. Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)
5. National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)
6. Federal Fire Service
7. Nigerian Customs Service
The competition included various sporting activities, with impressive performances by the teams:
Football: Nigeria Police Force clinched the trophy.
Volleyball: Nigerian Correctional Service emerged champions, with NSCDC and Federal Fire Service securing second and third places, respectively.
Table Tennis: Nigerian Immigration Service took the top prize.
Draft: Nigerian Correctional Service won the medal.
Ayo Olopon (traditional game): Nigeria Police Force emerged victorious.
A special highlight was the award for the highest scorer in football, won by CA1 Isiaq Olanrewaju Yusuf of the Nigerian Correctional Service, who scored an impressive seven goals during the tournament.
In his remarks, the State Controller, Danmairomu Shuaib Ayodeji, expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah, the participants, and officers for their exemplary inter-agency collaboration throughout the tournament. He also commended the Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa (FICMC, MFR, mni), for providing an enabling environment to foster such initiatives.
The leader of the sports unit, ACC Abigail Oredun Ogunbiyi, and the Command Sports Officer, SC Salman Saadu, highlighted the significance of the event in promoting love, mutual respect, and discipline among officers. They extended appreciation to the State Controller, participants, invited guests, and sports enthusiasts who contributed to the event’s success.
The tournament is set to conclude with a joint jogging exercise for retiring officers and men on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.
