In a grand and historic ceremony at the Main Auditorium (NIIT), Basawa Old Kano Road, Zaria, on Sunday, November 17, 2024, Ishaq Shittu Dayo was officially installed as the Otun Akinrogun of Yoruba Zazzau, Kaduna State.
The occasion, steeped in tradition and cultural pride, drew a multitude of dignitaries, northern Yoruba monarchs, chiefs, and well-wishers, celebrating Yoruba leadership and unity in northern Nigeria.
The coronation ceremony was presided over by His Royal Majesty, Oba Alhaji (Barrister) Ishak Bello, the Oba Yoruba Zazzau, and graced by the distinguished presence of His Highness Alhaji (Ambassador) Nuhu Ahmed Bamalli, the Emir of Zazzau, serving as the Royal Father of the Day.
Their attendance marked the enduring bond between diverse traditional institutions and showcased a strong commitment to fostering unity among communities.
In his acceptance speech, Ishaq Shittu Dayo expressed deep gratitude for the honor bestowed upon him, stating, “I am deeply humbled to be given this noble opportunity to serve as Otun Akinrogun of Yoruba Zazzau. I pledge to work tirelessly for the unity of all northern Yoruba, fostering cooperation and progress among our people, regardless of location or background.”
Dayo also highlighted his dedication to supporting national development, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. “As we foster unity among the northern Yoruba, we must also align ourselves with the national vision for a better Nigeria. I am fully committed to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in achieving its goals for growth, stability, and prosperity across our great nation,” he added.
The event saw the attendance of prominent northern Yoruba kings and chiefs, emphasizing the significance of collaboration in preserving culture and promoting communal development. Dayo congratulated his fellow chiefs who were also coronated during the ceremony and encouraged collective efforts in promoting peace and progress within their communities.
Expressing his appreciation to family, friends, and well-wishers, Dayo assured them of his dedication to his new role. “Together, we will uphold our heritage, foster unity, and contribute meaningfully to the development of Kaduna State and Nigeria as a whole,” he concluded.
