In an effort to combat the rising cost of living, the Edo State Government has launched a free bus service for its citizens through the Edo City Transport Service (ECTS). This initiative aligns with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s five-point agenda aimed at improving living conditions for residents.
Governor Okpebholo unveiled the free bus service during an event in Benin City on Monday. According to a statement from Fred Itua, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, this program reinforces the administration’s commitment to enhancing the well-being of all Edo residents.
The free bus service will operate across the Benin metropolis and extend to all three Senatorial districts of the state, covering both intra-city and inter-city routes. Governor Okpebholo emphasized that “this service will alleviate transportation challenges, enabling our citizens to travel within Benin and beyond without facing additional financial burdens.”
He noted that the initiative includes routes serving Edo Central, with towns such as Ekpoma, Iruekpen, Irrua, and Uromi benefiting from the service. Additionally, Edo North communities—including Agbede, Auchi, Okpella, and Fugar—will also be fully integrated into the transportation scheme, ensuring broad access for residents throughout the region.
