Lere Olayinka, a media aide to Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, and independent journalist Jackson Ude are in a fierce exchange on the X microblogging platform following allegations that Wike was blocked from accessing the Aso Rock Presidential Villa due to drunkenness.
Earlier this week, Ude claimed that Wike was inebriated when he welcomed the Indian Prime Minister at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and cited an anonymous security source who allegedly confirmed Wike’s denial of access based on his state.
However, Olayinka refuted these claims, stating that Wike had performed his duties as instructed by President Bola Tinubu. The conflict intensified on Wednesday when Olayinka highlighted Ude’s $10,000 defamation fine by a U.S. court, branding him a “serial liar.”
In retaliation, Ude threatened to escalate the situation, warning Olayinka that he would “destroy” him and his “drunken Master,” suggesting that Olayinka’s education was insufficient to engage with him in journalism. Olayinka accepted the challenge, declaring, “Let the war start now,” indicating that the battle has only just begun.
