The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, has called out unnamed individuals for attempting to sabotage the government’s efforts in addressing the country’s insecurity crisis.
He stated that these individuals are actively working against the government’s initiatives, declaring, “There are certain individuals trying to make it impossible for the government to succeed. They are doing everything possible to sabotage the efforts of the government. That will not happen.” Musa assured that such actions would not prevail.
His comments followed the handover of 58 rescued kidnapping victims from the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to the Kaduna State Government. The victims, including 35 males and 23 females, were abducted from their homes and farms in various villages in Katsina State and were rescued by troops of 1 Division on November 14, 2024.
Musa emphasized that many individuals involved in banditry may have been coerced into joining, asserting that the military would ensure accountability for the perpetrators. Notably, he confirmed that no ransom was paid for the victims’ release and urged citizens to support security agencies in their fight against ongoing violence.
Additionally, Maj Gen Adamu Laka, National Coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Centre, provided details about the kidnapping, stating that the victims were taken by armed bandits under the command of a notorious figure known as JANBROS. He explained that the victims were forced to trek long distances to deep forest areas before the rescue operation.
The government is committed to offering comprehensive support to the rescued individuals, with necessary medical checkups provided. Out of the six victims requiring hospitalization, all have since recovered and returned to reunite with their families.
