Mr. Cletus Obun, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former chairman of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) in Cross River State, has asserted that part of his party’s responsibility includes destabilizing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
During an appearance on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” on Friday, Obun described weakening the opposition as an effective political strategy. His comments followed a statement by PDP chieftain Segun Sowunmi, who criticized President Bola Tinubu for appointing Nyesom Wike as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), attributing the party’s internal strife to this decision.
Obun responded to Sowunmi’s remarks, arguing that destabilizing rival parties is a legitimate move as long as it does not lead to violence. He stated, “If the PDP acknowledges our ability to infiltrate and destabilize them, it would be a significant political admission. Just as it is their mission to undermine the APC, it is within our rights to do the same. As long as it remains non-violent, employing such a political weapon is valid.”
