A 65-year-old woman, Oladega Morenike, has reportedly died during an altercation with her neighbor, Abigail Bankole, in Ipokia, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.
According to reports, Morenike collapsed after hitting her head against a wall, following an alleged push by Bankole.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement sent to journalists on Saturday. Odutola revealed that the incident occurred around 4:20 pm on Thursday.
The case was reported to the police by one of the deceased’s children, Ibrahim Oladega.
Odutola stated that Bankole fled the scene immediately after the incident, and efforts are underway to locate and apprehend her.
The victim’s body has been deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital, Ilaro, for an autopsy.
Part of the police statement read:
“Upon receiving the report, detectives were dispatched to the scene, where they found the victim lying on her back. A photograph was taken, and her body was transported to the General Hospital in Ipokia, where she was pronounced dead by a doctor.
“The suspect fled the scene and is currently at large, with active efforts underway to apprehend her. Preliminary investigations are ongoing, and the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Abeokuta for further investigation.”
