[PHOTOS] OSU NHQ Concludes 2024 Annual Summer School Programme

Offa Students Union (OSU) National Headquarters has successfully concluded its 2024 Annual Summer School Programme on September 14, 2024.

The educational initiative, which spanned from August 5 to September 14, was designed to provide academic enrichment to primary and secondary school students in the community.

This year’s programme also marked the launch of the official summer school anthem, adding a unifying spirit to the initiative.

A major highlight of the closing ceremony was the presence of Senator Oyelola Ashiru, the Deputy Senate Leader and Senator representing Kwara South Senatorial District.

In his keynote address, Senator Ashiru, who has a long-standing connection with OSU, reminisced about his days as a former Vice President and Social Director of the Union, more than 60 years ago.

As part of his continuous support for OSU, he awarded scholarships to 100 deserving students from both primary and secondary schools.

He further announced his commitment to creating a youth sports and recreational centre in Offa, demonstrating his ongoing dedication to youth empowerment in the community.

Also supporting the initiative, Mr. Muhammed Tunde Mojeed, popularly known as Merit, a key stakeholder in the OSU NHQ, donated 450 exercise books to students.

In addition, Prince Nurudeen Olanipekun, the Head of Department of Microbiology and Sciences at The Federal Polytechnic Offa, awarded textbooks to the best-performing students in both science and arts categories, further motivating the young scholars.

In recognition of their contributions to the union and the community, OSU NHQ presented meritorious awards to several distinguished personalities, including Alhaja Kudirat Ijaya (LARAKUD), the Union’s Life Matron; Qs Muhydeen Okunlola Kayode (MOK), founder of the MOK Foundation; and Alhaji (Chief) Abdullateef Kunle Ajeigbe, the Aare Bobaselu of Offaland and Patron of the Union.

The event was graced by the Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Muhammad Gbadamosi Okikiola, Esuwoye II, Ajagungbade I, who was represented by Chief Olowa of Offa, Sheikh Aliyu Usman Ayilara, and Chief Alagure of Offaland, Chief Onawola Bode. Hon. Thomas Olajare Olatundun, immediate past Offa TIC Chairman, and Hon. Aisha Biola Raji, immediate past Vice TIC Chairman, also lent their support to the programme. The Chief Imam of Offa, Sheikh Muhyidin Salman Hussein, was represented by Dr. Kamaluddin Hussain Al Imam, who offered prayers and words of encouragement to the students.

Representing The Federal Polytechnic Offa (FEDPOFFA) at the event were Dr. (Mrs.) Mulika Bola Aliyu, Deputy Rector (Academics), and Dr. Salimonu Rasheed Ishaq, Deputy Rector (Administration), standing in for the Rector, Engr. (Dr.) Kamoru Kadiri Oluwatoyin, FNSE.

Other notable attendees included Engr. Lawal Nurudeen (former OSU President), Alhaja Sanni Alaso Nla, Mr. Olayemi Olaboye, Comrade Nasir Samad, Comrade Ishaq Sheriff, Comrade Abdul-Sobur Success World (immediate past OSU NHQ PRO), and Comrade Abubakar Sodiq (Aka Biggy), all of whom have played pivotal roles in supporting OSU’s mission of academic and social development.

The 2024 Annual Summer School Programme marks yet another milestone in OSU NHQ’s efforts to promote education, youth development, and community growth in Offa.
