Nigeria has emerged victorious at the 2024 CAVB African Zone 3 Junior Championship, clinching gold medals in both the male and female categories.
The tournament, held in Benin from September 9 to 15, 2024, showcased exceptional performances from Nigeria’s junior volleyball teams, further establishing the country as a force to reckon with in African volleyball.
In the male category, Favour Adeniyi of Offa Volleyball Club (OVC) was awarded the prestigious Best Setter title, highlighting his pivotal role in leading Nigeria to victory.
Alongside him, other standout players included Taiye Joel, who won Best Attacker, Azi Adonis, named Best Libro, Benjamin Ogbu, awarded Best Blocker, and Feranmi Abolajoko was crowned Most Valuable Player (MVP).
In the female category, Nigeria’s team also shone brightly. Aliyah Usman, another talented player from Offa Volleyball Club (OVC), took home the Best Setter award, while Pamela Bawa was named the MVP of the tournament.
Joy Lawrence received the Best Libro award, Faith Ezekiel was recognized as Best Blocker, and Mirabel Onyegwu earned both Best Attacker and Best Server awards.
These accolades underline the exceptional talent nurtured within Nigeria’s volleyball circuit, with the performances of Favour Adeniyi and Aliyah Usman particularly noteworthy for their contributions to the country’s success on the international stage.
The CAVB African Zone 3 Junior Championship brought together the best young volleyball players from across West Africa, with Nigeria’s dominance further demonstrating the strength and potential of its volleyball programs.
The achievements of these young athletes are a testament to the hard work of their coaches, including OVC’s Coach Sulaiman Ajeigbe, and the support from associations like the Kwara State Volleyball Association.
