The Offa Local Government Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has responded to recent media reports concerning Prophet Adeniyi Adebayo, also known as “Ogunse,” and his son, Happiness Adebayo.
The two are currently in police custody in connection with an ongoing investigation into the alleged murder of a young woman for yet-to-be-determined purposes.
In an official statement signed by Special Apostle & Prophet Isaac Kayode Abioye, the Legal Adviser of CAN, Offa Local Government Chapter, the Association clarified that while Prophet Ogunse’s church is not affiliated with any of the CAN member-bodies, he is a member of the Ministers’ Fellowship in Offa, which is a clergy-arm of the Offa CAN.
The association expressed its strong condemnation of any form of ritual practices, atrocities, or criminal activities, emphasizing that it does not associate with any church involved in such acts.
Offa CAN has urged all relevant security agencies to collaborate closely to ensure a comprehensive investigation into the matter. They called for the thorough prosecution of those found guilty or their exoneration if proven otherwise.
In the meantime, the association has requested that the authorities seal Prophet Ogunse’s place of worship pending the outcome of the investigation to safeguard the security of lives and properties.
CAN Offa Chapter also extended its heartfelt condolences to the family, classmates, and institution of the victim, assuring them that they would pursue all necessary actions to ensure justice is served.
Additionally, they appealed to the students of the institution to avoid any actions that could be exploited by unscrupulous individuals, potentially leading to unrest in the local government area.
Finally, the association called on the general public to report any pastor or church officer involved in criminal activities to the appropriate authorities.
