….. Outgoing President Delivers Valedictory Speech

 

Offa Students Union (OSU), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Chapter has on Sunday, August 18, 2024 held Offa Cultural Day.

 

The outgoing President of OSU ABU Zaria, Muhammad Khalilullah Olanrewaju delivered an inspiring and heartfelt speech today as he officially handed over leadership to his successor, Comrade Ibrahim Abdulrahman.

 

The event, which took place during the Offa Cultural Day celebration, was attended by members of the union, esteemed guests, newly elected executives, and well-wishers.

 

In his address, Olanrewaju began by expressing his deep gratitude to Almighty Allah for granting him the wisdom and strength to lead the union through a memorable and successful tenure.

 

He also extended his appreciation to several individuals who played significant roles in supporting his administration. Special recognition was given to Prof. Tajudeen A. Olasinde, Prof. Muyideen Oyebode, Prof. (Mrs.) I.F. Akande, Dr. Tesleem Adeyemi, Dr. Ahmad Jamila, and Mr. Abdulfatah Jayeola for their unwavering support throughout his time in office. He further acknowledged the contributions of Alhaji Rasheed Bello, Alhaji Muyideen Kayode Okunola, Mr. Banwo Olabanji, Engr. Shakirudeen, and Mr. Omoniyi Salam for their instrumental roles in ensuring the success of the union’s programs.

 

Reflecting on his tenure, Olanrewaju highlighted the numerous achievements of the union under his leadership. Among these were the organization of a well-attended picnic programme, the seamless mobilization of students at subsidized rates, the subsidized registration for both new and returning students, and a highly successful Iftar program during Ramadan, which benefited over 400 students.

 

He also noted the union’s efforts in fostering academic and entrepreneurial development through initiatives such as an entrepreneurship summit and an inter-faculty debate, as well as the establishment of the OSU-ABU library and a stationery shop.

 

In a display of unity and cultural pridCommunity waju reminded the attendees of the importance of preserving and promoting their cultural heritage, which he described as the “identity that binds us together as a community.”

 

He urged the union members to continue upholding the values of unity, respect, and solidarity.

 

As he prepared to step down from his role, Olanrewaju expressed his deep sense of accomplishment and gratitude to the members of the union for their trust and support.

 

He emphasized that none of the union’s achievements would have been possible without the collective efforts of the executive members, volunteers, and general membership.

 

He concluded his speech by pledging his continued support for the union and wishing the incoming president and executives success in their future endeavors.

 

The ceremony ended with Olanrewaju extending his well-wishes to the Offa Students Union, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and the entire Offa Community.

 

BEING THE SPEECH OF MUHAMMAD KHALILULLLAH OLAREWAJU, THE

OUTGOING PRESIDENT OFFA STUDENTS UNION AHMADU BELLO

UNIVERSITY ZARIA ON THIS DAY 18TH OF AUGUST 2024

 

Good afternoon everyone, Members of the union, esteemed guests, newly elected executives,

ladies and Gentlemen. I welcome and greet each and every one of you and I’m grateful for

your presence today.

With due regards to Almighty Allah, the creator of the creatures, the omniscience and

omnipotents, the doers of all doings and the Alpha and Omega for making this memorable

day come to pass and happening where we all gathered to celebrate Offa Cultural Day

Ahmadu Bello University Chapter 2024.

 

To whom much is given, much is expected. Special Appreciation goes to our fathers and

mothers in persons of Prof Tajudeen A. olasinde, Prof Muyideen Oyebode, Prof (Mrs) I.F

Akande, Dr. Tesleem Adeyemi, Dr. Ahmad Jamila and Mr. Abdulfatah jayeola for their immense support throughout the administration.

 

Our heartfelt thanks go to Alhaji Rasheed Bello, Alhaji Muyideen Kayode Okunola, Mr.

Banwo Olabanji, Engr Shakirudeen, and Mr. Omoniyi Salam. Your unwavering support has

been instrumental in ensuring the success of this program, and we are deeply grateful for your

contributions.

 

I begin by giving thanks to Almighty Allahfor the wisdom and strength to lead this great

union. It gives me great pleasure to be standing in front of you on this day,exiting my

position as the president of this great union. Thank you for entrusting me with the privilege to

serve the union as president. In the same breath, I congratulateComrd. Ibrahim Abdulrahman

who is succeeding me as the president of the union and wish him well in his new role. I also

wish him and all other elected executives of the union well in all their future endeavours.

 

In addition, I would like to acknowledge the tireless efforts and commitment of the members

of our union. Special thanks go to Mr. Afis Opeyemi Ibrahim, Comrade Muhideen

Nimotallah Kikelomo, Comrade Muhammad Raji Muhammad Kamil, Comrade Yusuf

Iyewopo, Comrade Adeyeye Adeyemi Abdulqudus, and many others who have worked

diligently to ensure the success of today’s event. Your dedication and hard work have not

gone unnoticed, and we appreciate everything you have done to make this day a success.

 

also want to thank the general membership of the union,particularly those who served on

various committees and those who participated in other activities oftheunion, including

debates and entrepreneurship trainings.

 

As we celebrate our cultural heritage today, let usremember that our culture is our identity. It

is what sets us apart and binds us together as a community. It is our responsibility to preserve

and promote this heritage for future generations. Let us continue to uphold the values of

unity, respect, and solidarity that are the hallmark of our great community.

 

As I look back on the past ten-eleven months, I am filled with a deep sense of

accomplishment. Together we have faced numerous challenges and through this with the help of Almighty Allah,our union emerged stronger, more united,and more determined to uphold

the rights and welfare of our members. I have learned so much from each and everyone of

you, and I am grateful for the trust you placed in me. The friendships I have formed and the

lessons I have learned will stay with me forever.Through our collective efforts,we have been able to achieve the following;

 

1.Organized a well befitting picnic program.

 

2.Seamless mobilization of students back home and to school at a well subsidized rate.

 

3.Subsidized registration for newly and returning students.

 

4.Organized a well befitting iftar program during Ramadan which over 400 students

benefitted.

 

5.Conducted congress meetings with large turnout of members.

 

6.Organized an entrepreneurship summit which encompasses cakes,pastries and

computer training which over 15 students benefitted.

 

7.Organized interfaculty debate where six faculties participated with a cash prize given

to the winner of the of the debate.

 

8.EquippedOSU-ABU Business center with furniture’sof 5 standard stool and a 4

seaters bench.

 

9.Facilitated a good working complete desktop donated by Mr.Olabanwo Labanji, the

CEO Encalypso company.

 

10.Established OSU-ABU library first of its kind with career materials in Agriculture, in

honour of Professor Muhyideen Oyebode.

 

11.Established OSU-ABU stationery shop, starting with three cartons of A4 paper, office files, envelopes,spiral-binding materials, 2 cartons of pens and lots more.

 

12.OrganizedArewa/Ananmo night,where we feature music,comedy, and Hype-man

performance first of its kind.

 

13.Promotedour dear Father Professor Olasinde A. Tajudeen from patron to life patron

which he happily accepted from us.

 

14.Facilitated free CAC registration through the CEO Gigabytes EducationConsult

which a member benefitted from itin person of Mr. Usman Ahmad.

 

15.Participated in OSU NHQ general election where OSU-ABU emerged and assumed

the office of Vice president 2 and deputy senate president in person of Comrd

Olasunkanmi Damilola Uswat andSen. Usman Amao Raji.

 

None of these achievements wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering support and dedication of each and every one of you. My special thanks to our Father, patron, Professor

Tajudeen Olasinde who have been of great support to this union for the past few years.To the

2024 executive members,thank you for your dedication,wisdom and hard work behind the

scenes and all the volunteers who have given their time and energy to advance our shared goals. Your commitment hasbeen the backbone of our success.

 

To the incoming president it is not going to be easy to lead this union as it has grown bigger for the past few years. But with the support of Almighty Allah, the incoming executives, the

general members of the Union and our dear Fathers and mothers you should be able to sail

through and effectively deliver on your mandate.

 

In closing, I want to say it has been an honour to serve as your president. Though my term

has come to an end, I will always be here to support this union in any way I can. Thank you

for your trust, your hard work, and commitment to our shared goals. Let us continue to move

forward,united and strong.
