A 21-year-old student of Kwara State College of Health Technology, Mojisola Awesu, who was hired by a friend to pose as a girlfriend for another student at a party in exchange for N15,000, has been found dead at a dumpsite in the Aleniboro area of Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.
This was revealed by the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, in a statement released to PUNCH Online on Tuesday.
According to the PPRO, a resident reported on August 12, 2024, that a dead body was discovered by laborers at a refuse dump in the area. Police officers responded to the scene, recovered the body, and identified it as Awesu before transferring it to a morgue.
The following day, August 13, Miss Blessing, a roommate of Awesu, reported her missing. She stated that Awesu had left home to attend a party organized by students from two private universities in the state.
Providing more details, Ejire-Adeyemi explained, “According to the report, Miss Mojisola received a call on August 9 from Miss Timileyin, who told her about an event organized by students of Summit University and Al-Hikmah University in Ilorin.
Timileyin introduced Mojisola to a student of Summit University, Mr. Adebayo Happiness, who allegedly invited her to the night party under the guise of having her act as his girlfriend for a fee of N15,000.”
Upon arriving in Ilorin, Awesu informed her roommate that she felt uneasy at the hotel where Adebayo Happiness had lodged her, and mentioned that there was no party at the location.
The police spokesperson further stated that after Awesu informed her roommate of the situation, her phone became unreachable, and all efforts to contact her were unsuccessful.
Following investigations, several suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently under investigation.
“Shortly after this communication, her phone was switched off, and all subsequent attempts by Miss Blessing to reach her were unsuccessful,” Ejire-Adeyemi added. “In light of these developments, the Kwara State Police Command has arrested suspects connected to the case.
The investigation is ongoing, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further discreet investigation.”
