A man named Mustapha Yahaya has been taken to a Sharia Court in Shahuchi, Kano State, to face charges of defamation of character stemming from a disagreement over the treatment of a stray dog.
Yahaya denies the allegations and was granted bail on the condition that he maintains peaceful relations with his neighbor.
Khadi Abdu Abdullahi Wayya adjourned the case until July 10, 2024, to allow for the presentation of witnesses.
According to reports, Yahaya allegedly hurled verbal attacks at his neighbor after the neighbor advised him to stop mistreating the dog, which Yahaya claimed was barking at him excessively.
In another case, Hamisu Musa Rijiyar Lemo has been brought before a Sharia Court in Kurna, Kano State, over an alleged assault on Abdurrazak Adamu.
When the charges were read to him, Lemo pleaded guilty.
The prosecution requested his immediate conviction.
However, Khadi Shamsuddeen Ado Abdullahi granted him bail, taking into account that Lemo’s mother had passed away during his arraignment.
The case has been adjourned until August 1, 2024, when the court will review the health condition of the plaintiff.
