A brazen attempt by suspected armed robbers to invade Western Delta University, Oghara, in Delta State, was thwarted on Thursday after the university’s security was breached.
The would-be thieves gained entry through an unfenced perimeter at the rear of the campus, reportedly intending to target students.
However, the swift response of law enforcement agents prevented any casualties or significant disruptions to the university’s operations.
The robbers were said to have fled in different directions upon sighting the security personnel.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, stated that the suspects entered through a broken fence at the back of the school, but were promptly repelled by police.
A student leader in the university, Simeon Okpoko, highlighted the ongoing security challenges facing educational institutions and emphasized the importance of vigilant security measures to protect students and staff.
In response to the incident, the university management has announced plans to increase security measures to prevent future incidents and ensure the safety of its community.
