The House of Representatives Committee on Interior has committed to investigating alleged irregularities in passport issuance and resident permit utilization following numerous petitions and complaints from Nigerians.

During an interactive session held in Abuja on Friday, Chairman Ahmed Abdullahi, represented by Vice Chairman Ganiyu Adele, emphasized the need for the probe to identify shortcomings and implement reforms to enhance the system’s integrity.

Adele stated, “The investigation is paramount to maintain the integrity of immigration processes and ensure fair and timely treatment for citizens and residents.”

The committee has formally requested the Managing Directors of IRIS Smart Technology and Continental Transfer Technique, among others, to provide details of their agreements or contracts with the Federal Government aimed at enhancing services in line with international standards.

Additionally, the committee, as part of its statutory mandate, will delve into expatriate quotas, expressing concern over the absence of accurate data regarding the number of expatriate residents in Nigeria.
