Suspected bandits, armed gunmen, are reported to have fatally shot a commander of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps’ agro ranger unit in Benue State. The deceased, identified as Mike Ode, was killed during an encounter in Shaapera community, Gwer West Local Government Area.
Nicholas Ode, the deceased’s uncle, revealed that his brother was brutally slain during a confrontation with herdsmen in Shaapera village. The NSCDC officers reportedly engaged in a gun battle with the bandits, resulting in the death of Ode and the escape of his colleagues.
Mike Ejelikwu, the NSCDC Command Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident, emphasizing that the command remains committed to its duty of ensuring security for all law-abiding citizens. He explained that the agro ranger unit is tasked with safeguarding agro-allied investments across various regions in the state.
Ejelikwu acknowledged the loss of the deceased, who served as the commander of the operation, during the gun duel. He assured that the command is providing support to Ode’s family while reaffirming their resolve to combat criminal activities in the region.
