The Imo State Polytechnic chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has praised Governor Hope Uzodimma for merging the institution’s three campuses into one, located in Omuma, Oru East Local Government Area.
The commendation follows the enactment of a law by the Imo State House of Assembly, which merged the Ehime Mbano and Orlu campuses with Omuma designated as the headquarters.
Dr. Ugo Onyewuchi, Chairman of Imo Poly ASUP, informed journalists that the previous multi-campus system negatively impacted student enrollment and revenue generation. He expressed gratitude for Governor Uzodimma’s decision, believing it will enhance the school’s reputation.
Onyewuchi appealed to Governor Uzodimma for the financial implementation of the 2023 promotion, inclusion of Imo State Polytechnic workers in the contributory pension scheme, and prompt payment of gratuity. Additionally, he urged the government to settle outstanding salaries from March and April 2018, and February 2020, implement the approved salary scale increase, and construct the ASUP secretariat building.
Furthermore, Onyewuchi called on the state government to donate vehicles to the union and establish a governing council for the polytechnic to improve service delivery.
