Suspected Fulani herdsmen reportedly launched an attack on a community in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State on Sunday night, resulting in the death of two individuals. The victims, Agness Salahu, aged 28, and Ademu Efugoga, aged 25, were ambushed between Egba and Ogbaulu communities of Agatu while returning from an event around 6pm.

Barrister Napoleon Otache, a cousin of the deceased, confirmed the tragic incident and expressed deep concern over the ongoing insecurity in Agatu. Otache lamented the lack of security presence in the area, allowing attackers to terrorize the land with impunity.

He emphasized the urgent need for assistance from the federal government, describing the situation as a dangerous escalation of insecurity in the region. Otache highlighted that Agatu and Apa enclave have been under siege by Fulani terrorists, necessitating immediate intervention.

Efforts to obtain confirmation of the incident from the Benue State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, were unsuccessful.
