A man known as Paul has been sentenced to nine months in jail by the mobile court in Oshodi for both failing to use a pedestrian bridge and assaulting a Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps official.
Tokunbo Wahab, the state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, announced this development on Thursday via a post on X.
According to Wahab, Paul was apprehended on April 16 at Agbado Oke Odo for disregarding the pedestrian bridge and, in the process, assaulting a LAGESC enforcement personnel.
The mobile court, which convened in Oshodi, handed down the nine-month jail term to him.
Additionally, on Monday, the state government arrested and charged 76 individuals for allegedly neglecting pedestrian bridges in the Ojota, Ladipo, and Oshodi areas.
Wahab disclosed this information, stating that these individuals were apprehended for failing to utilize the pedestrian bridge and have been brought before the court for prosecution.
The ministry had previously cautioned residents against avoiding pedestrian bridges, labeling the act of crossing major highways in the state by foot as an offense.
