Nollywood mourns the loss of yet another talented actor, Junior Pope Odonwodo, fondly known as Jnr Pope, who tragically passed away while filming in Asaba, the capital of Delta State.

Reports indicate that Junior Pope lost his life during a boat trip gone awry, as the vessel capsized, leading to his drowning, along with two other actors whose identities remain undisclosed. Despite efforts to rescue them, Junior Pope and his companions could not be saved, and his lifeless body was recovered and rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Emma Onyemeziem, the Delta State Chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), confirmed the devastating news, stating that Junior Pope’s remains have been deposited in the morgue, marking a profound loss for the Nollywood community.

Junior Pope’s untimely demise adds to the series of tragedies that have befallen Nollywood this year, following the recent passing of esteemed actors such as Mr. Ibu and Sisi Quadri. Earlier in the year, the industry mourned the loss of Deji Aderemi, popularly known as Olofa Ina, and in February, Ethel Ekpe, renowned for her role as ‘Segi’ in the iconic Nigerian Television Authority sitcom, ‘Basi and Company’, also bid farewell.
