Edo State Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu has emphasized that his annual breakfast with journalists is not politically motivated but a gesture of gratitude for their pivotal role in upholding peace and good governance in the society.
Speaking during the event at his residence in GRA, Benin City, he highlighted the critical importance of journalists in sustaining the system, urging them not to relent.
Addressing his political vision, Comrade Shaibu expressed a mission to shift power from the elite back to the people.
He outlined initiatives in his agenda, including the development of a housing scheme to support low-income earners, such as journalists, in owning homes without incurring debt.
Comrade Shaibu also pledged assistance in repairing some of the broken facilities at the Nigerian Union of Journalists’ Secretariat by January, 2024.
The highlight of the breakfast meeting was the presentation of cash price to three journalists under the Philip Shaibu annual Investigative Journalism Award.
