….Visits NHRC, NTA
On Friday, 8th December 2023, the Kwara State chapter of the Committee for Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) marked World Human Rights Day in a grand style. The members of CDHR, adorned in shirts and caps bearing the organization’s logo, embarked on a series of activities to raise awareness about the importance of human rights.
As part of the commemoration, the CDHR members paid a courtesy visit to the office of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State. The visit was aimed at strengthening the collaboration between the CDHR and NHRC in promoting and protecting human rights in the state.
Furthermore, the CDHR delegation also visited the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) in Ilorin, where they engaged in discussions about the role of the media in promoting human rights issues. This visit aimed to encourage media organizations to play an active role in creating awareness and advocating for the respect of human rights.
The CDHR, under the leadership of Comrade Afolabi Lukman, aims to make a lasting impact in advocating for human rights and ensuring that individuals living in Kwara State are treated with dignity and respect. The commemoration of World Human Rights Day serves as a reminder for all members of society to uphold and protect the fundamental human rights that every individual is entitled to.
By organizing events and engaging with key stakeholders, the CDHR is actively working towards a society where human rights are respected, upheld, and protected. Their efforts will undoubtedly contribute to the overall improvement of the human rights situation in Kwara State.
As the world celebrates World Human Rights Day, it is crucial to remember that respecting and promoting human rights is not a one-day affair but an ongoing commitment. The CDHR’s commemoration serves as a catalyst for continuous efforts towards achieving a more just and equitable society for all individuals, regardless of their background or circumstances.
The chairman spoke on the 75th anniversary of world human rights Day with theme “Consolidating and Sustaining human rights culture into the future” with emphasis on Social, economic and cultural rights and all forms of rights abuses and religious, ethnic and gender discriminations.
In her response on behalf of the management, the General Manager of NTA Ilorin, Mrs. Toyin Alade-Atomode, stated that the station is ready to highlight all human rights issues. She directed that members of CDHR should be invited to all programs relevant to its aims and objectives.
Comrade Afolabi Lukman led the following members: Olatunde Reuben (State Secretary), Mrs. Taiwo Akinyemi (State Treasurer), Idris Afees (National Publicity Secretary), Idris Saka (former National Vice President), Mrs. Folashade Olabanji (Assistant General Secretary).
Others include Tijani Azeez, Sambo, Rasaq, Dr. Tunde Sanusi, Mrs. Tawakalitu Sulaiman, Mrs. Samuel, and Miss Mariam Adebayo.
