A chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Asiwaju Mashood Shittu (popular as AMS) has charged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, All Progressives Congress (APC) and the judiciary to respect the mandate of Kano state by upholding the victory of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
He said tempering with the votes of Kano citizens will be an encroachment on their fundamental human rights as citizens of Nigeria.
Shittu, who is also the northern Director-general of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso Presidential Campaign Organization made this known in a statement he personally signed Tuesday, November 14.
He said, “in the interest of national harmony and political stability, it is imperative for the Federal Government led by His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to steadfastly adhere to the democratic process that led to the election of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
“Upholding the sanctity of elections is crucial to averting potential political crises and fostering a resilient democratic foundation.
“Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s election reflects the will of the people, as expressed through the democratic exercise. Any deviation from recognizing this mandate may lead to discontent, erode public trust, and breed political unrest. By embracing the legitimacy of the election, the federal government can showcase its commitment to the principles of democracy and the rule of law.
“Furthermore, adherence to the electoral outcome is essential for promoting national unity. Acknowledging the results of the election reinforces the idea that every citizen’s vote matters and contributes to the collective voice of the nation. This inclusivity is fundamental in maintaining the fabric of a diverse and democratic society.
“Addressing any concerns or disputes through established legal channels is encouraged, as it reinforces the institutions designed to uphold the democratic process. Transparent investigations and fair resolutions will not only address any potential grievances but also strengthen the democratic framework by demonstrating its resilience in the face of challenges.”
He continued that upholding the election of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is not merely a matter of political protocol but a crucial step in preserving the stability and unity of the nation.
Asiwaju Mashood Shittu said that the federal government’s commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law will serve as a beacon, reassuring citizens of the resilience of the democratic process and its ability to withstand challenges, thereby averting potential political crises.
“We may recall that in 2003 only ACN was returned as winners in the whole of South West by the PDP Led Federal Government , thus entrenching Political democracy across the country not withstanding political differences.”
