….Calls on ‘illegal’ TIC Chairman to devise strategies to restore peace
The Peoples Democratic Party in Ifelodun local government area of Kwara state has condemned incessant killings in many communities of the local government area, describing the government’s cold attitudes to the series of attacks and killing of citizens as sad and unacceptable.
The series of attacks by bandits, kidnappers, armed robbers, and terrorists have become the order of the day with the people of Ifelodun, including traditional rulers now living in fear.
This was contained in a press statement signed by PDP Publicity Secretary in Ifelodun, Hon Nurudeen Akeem Akmat and made available to newsmen early Sunday.
He said, “the recent incident occurred yesterday (Saturday, November 11) at Agbeku community in Agunjin ward, where two people were killed while many others were kidnapped, and, as of now, there is no information of their whereabouts.
“Two months ago, a popular community member and PDP women leader in the same Agunjin ward, Alhaja iya Shaki, was gruesomely killed by unknown gunmen while her properties were looted by her assailants.
“Meanwhile, in July 2023, another brutal incident occurred at Oro Ago, the country home of the incumbent Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi, where some members of the community were kidnapped.
“Exactly three weeks ago, another incident occurred in the Ora community, where one innocent physically challenged man was brutally killed, two others were kidnapped, and a ransom was to be paid by relatives and community for their release, but the kidnappers fled the meeting point and until now there’s no communication between them and the relatives of the kidnapped victims.
“It is also disheartening to hear that the kidnappers had issued a threatening message to the community telling them to prepare for another attack to be launched against the community.”
He disclosed that PDP in Ifelodun LGA is surprised that all these wanton killings of citizens have not attracted any reaction from the Kwara State government nor has the police convinced the residents that it is truly concerned about escalating insecurity in the land.
He also called on Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s government to “live up to responsibilities by securing the lives and properties of Kwarans, especially in Ifelodun LGA.”
He continued, “We also want to call on the TIC Chairman in Ifelodun local government, Mr. Jide Ashonibare, who has been collecting millions of naira every month without any achievement since his illegal appointment to devise means of arresting this menace.
“It is pertinent to note that the ruling APC regime is not on the side of her people owing to their nonchalant attitude towards providing adequate security in the state, most especially the people at the grassroots.
“It is on this note we extend our prayer to Almighty God for the safe returns of the kidnapped victims while praying God grants the departed souls eternal rest and gives their families the fortitude to bear those irreparable losses.”
