I understand that as Nigerians, we owe it to ourselves to support local contents but in the same vein, we must also open ourselves to honest movie reviews however unpleasant it may seem.
This way producers can learn from the errors, and up their game. Not every feedback is reduced to crude hatred oand petty jealousy.
Ijakumo The Born Again Stripper is not a total waste of time. Tasteful Cinematography, Perfect illustration, Locations, Dialogues and Role interpretations all amazing.
This is a story of love and betrayal, religious manipulation, spirituality, Organized Crime, revenge, and Ofcos, It elevates Woman power.
For me, Ijakumo is just another poorly scripted attempt at conveying the story of an organ harvesting syndicate who uses the church to launder money.
It also paints the church and Pastorhood in bad light while elevating the African fetish heritage.
Kunle Remi as usual a sophisticated actor, top of his game executed his role flawlessly but this is where it gets interesting.
A young hustler searching for light, betrays all the love and sacrifices of his beloved girlfriend out of greed and desperation. He meant to k|ll her, only she survived.
Many years later, he was made. Popular, witty, highly connected, he had everything he ever wanted in the palm of his hands.
The young spontaneous pastor desperate to satiate his lustful desires soon discover a new secret, that his innocent chorister is also his new favorite stripper.
He wants a taste but she wouldn’t let him in. It was against house rules but he was willing to double up on the cost.
She later agrees but only to further the intended plan to sneak into his house and steal the flash drive that contains information that will bring the syndicate to their knees.
I can understand that plot here, It is basic undercover thrill in movie history but unrealistic and poorly executed. Too many holes.
It’s funny how the Born again Chorister and stripper from Uganda are identical twins. How convenient for the director to just hit us with an unexplained, unrealistic twist.
So the random stripper planted to play undercover magically turns out to be the identical twin sister of the chorister in his church? How convenient. Haha 😆
Yes I can understand how identical twins get separated at birth but this plot is way too convenient and unrealistic.
Secondly, Toyin Abraham’s dreadlocks was too long abeg. Sweeping the ground? Too dramatic. 🙄 Considering it was extensively short some years ago.
The deliberate advertising of other brands in the movie was too obvious and ruined everything for me but I understand she’s trying to make revenue.
How is it that, The same woman (Toyin/Ashabi) who could stop a bullet with incantation could not pull magical disappearing trick to his house and out?
I mean, why go through all the trouble of planting an undercover stripper when she can easily appear and disappear. He obviously didn’t have any spiritual protection at his house.
The stunts are great. Lights and scenes and continuity were all amazing. Ashabi had her King of boys fire all lit. She totally nailed the role.
Toyin Abraham’s acting was spectacular as usual. She deserves her flowers. I particularly loved how she fused modernity and tradition in one frame. Amazing!
Not a terrible movie at all but Toyin Abraham can do better. No offense.
