The Shawwal crescent was spotted in Tamir, Saudi Arabia on Thursday, meaning the first day of Eid Al-Fitr will be on Friday, April 21.
The Saudi Supreme Court confirmed the sighting and announced Friday as the beginning of Eid.
Eid Al-Fitr celebrations follow the end of Ramadan which lasts 29 or 30 days based on when the crescent moon is sighted.
Employees in Saudi Arabia’s private and non-profit sector have been given a four-day paid holiday from Friday to Monday, the Kingdom’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development announced, Al Arabiya reported.
In the same development, Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Friday as Eid-el-Fitr, following the sighting of Shawwal, 1444 AH in many places across the country.
According to the monarch, reports on the new moon was received and verified by the national moon sighting committee.
He therefore called on Muslims to live peacefully with one another irrespective of their differences.
He also prayed Allah to guide our new leaders aright and continue to shower his Blessing on our country.
Meanwhile, The Polytechnic, Ojoku, Kwara State has declared Friday 21st and Monday, 24th of April, 2023 as holidays, to mark 2023 Eid-l-Fitr celebration.
This was contained in a statement on Thursday night by the public relations officer of the institution, Hammed J. Sulaiman.
He said: “sequel to the Federal Government’s declaration of Eid-l-Fitr, I have the directive of the Rector to inform the entire Polytechnic Community that Friday 21st, and Monday 24th of April, 2023 will be observed as holidays for the celebration of #Eid-I-Fitri.
“Accordingly, Friday 21st and Monday, 24th of April, 2023 have been declared as holidays, in marking this year’s Eid-l-Fitr celebration.
“The Rector, while praying for the blessing of the Holy Month of Ramadan, enjoined the entire Polytechnic Community and all Muslim brethren to make good use of this season.
“As always, please do accept the Rector’s highest assurances and best regards.
