Four alleged child traffickers have been detained in the state by the Rivers State Police Command.
Three women and one man are among the suspects.
The arrest was made as a result of a report made by one Precious Friday from the Ubima Community in the state’s Ikwerre Local Government Area, according to a statement from the State Command’s Public Relations officer, Grace Iringe-Koko.
Iringe-Koko said Friday called 911 after her child vanished, which caused officers from the Commissioner of Police Monitoring Unit of the Command to rush to the scene and arrest Mercy Enyindah.
She noted that Enyindah confessed to have stolen the child and 2 other children, along with her accomplice, Amaka Ewuzie.
This led to the arrest of another suspect, Chialuka Iheanacho and her husband, Chukwuma Iheanacho in Delta State, who are alleged to be members of the kidnap syndicate.
Iringe-Koko revealed that while other members of the gang were still being trailed, some of the children rescued had reunited with their parents, while efforts were ongoing to rescue two-year-old Jasper Friday, who was reportedly sold at Asaba.
