The State Commander, Oyo State command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Abdullah Saeed, revealed that it has seized not less than 235.89kg of illicit drugs in the state between January and March.
In a statement, issued by the command Public Relations Officer, Mrs Mutiat Okuwobi, in Ibadan, on Monday added that the seized illicit drugs includes cannabis sativa and other narcotic and psychotropic substances.
He claimed that the state’s NDLEA had also detained 56 individuals for various drug-related offenses, which 49 of were men, and seven were women.
He said, ”They are aged between 16 and 60 years. They were arrested for dealing in illicit drugs such as cannabis sativa, tramadol, and diazepam.
“Some of them dealt in Rohypnol, colorado, codeine and other psychotropic substances,”
Saeed disclosed that throughout the time period, 18 persons had been found guilty and seven others had received rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
”We carried out sensitisation programmes in 49 locations across the state campaigning against drug abuse,” he said.
The commander pleaded with the populace to remain watchful and provide the agency with trustworthy information so it could combat drug usage.
