Adigun Toheeb, alias Emperor, shared his aspirations on why he is contesting for Presidency of National Association Of Communication And Information Technology Students (NACITS), The Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State Chapter for 22/23 Academic Session.

Enjoy the excerpts:

Q: Tell Us Your Antecedents

Emperor: I was elected vice president of NAMCOS (National Association of Mass Communication Students) during my OND programme in 2019/2020. Ayeni Cornelius Brown was elected president.

During this period, I demonstrated what was deemed impossible. I was able to do these determination, drive, and passion, and these led to huge improvements for our department and the welfare of the students.

Today, I’m aspiring to become NACITS president so as to demonstrate more is possible.

Q: What Were You Able To Do As VP Of Your Department And Class Representative?

Emperor: I led the launch of one of the best projects in the history of Mass Communication, The Federal Polytechnic, Offa. We also provided public address system use in the department till date.

As students’ representatives, we must cater for and provide greater welfare for our students.

We must encourage our students in their academic pursuit in the department and built stronger relationships with all classes in the department. This could be done via consistent, continuous and constant tutorials, orientation programmes, provide platforms for mentees. These will boost our academic performances, good conduct, serenity among other good phenomenal.

In 2021, I was chosen to serve the good persons of HND F21, as their class representative, and to the best of my power I tried every possible best to hold this class United and free them from any evil force; even when it seems things might go awry. My efforts can be attested to by all lecturers that interact with class. Without mincing words, I can boldly say my class is the best in the department right now: conduct, tolerant, responsible.

Beyond being a class representative, I am also a representative for some courses.

I also hold tutorials – online and offline. I can recollect that I tutored the current ND II students inside Stella Hall then. The duo of Mr. Adegboye and Mr. Ganiyu met me during a tutorial one day when they were doing a random inspection in Mini campus.

I can’t say it any better as I was honoured by out-gone executives, with a certificate to appreciate my efforts for selfless service as class representatives and tutor.

There are others I can’t recollect now.

Q: What Will You Do As NACITS President?

I want to take a proactive and sustainable lead generally on issues that affect our student body at the faculty level, which means all departments will become my responsibility as I will be proud to become their representative.

I hope to develop and launch an ICT career scheme to train our students on different skills which will be of help to them after school. I want to stay in the heart of these people forever. What is leadership if you are forgotten as a leader in a few days?

I will come up with a leadership conference to inspire students to speak on issues bordering on their welfarism. There are many things affecting students on campus.

School of Communication students are famous because of their writing skills and speaking capabilities, but it seems now we are dwelling on the past glories. I will work hand in hand with my executives, academic director, Editor-in-chief, to have a channel for the submission of weekly articles from students and do the needful corrections and publish the best on the school board every week. This will further encourage students to do more and be of help to lecturers.

My administration will also organize departmental meetings, and these will strengthen bonds among departments in SCIT.

I will also oversee different developmental projects initiated or proposed by presidents-elect in SCIT departments.

I observed that mobilization is low at NACITS level. This body and administration should be the best after SUG, I will try and make it work again and never go into extinction never again.

As I said earlier, the mobilization is always low I will Ensurey we have the best orientation programme and NACITS Week  in the history of this faculty.

Finally, transparency and accountability are the pride of a good administration. Review our core messages to ensure it is clear what we do as students’ representatives.
