Festus Keyamo, a member of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, has provided an explanation for why he was not chosen by the party to represent Bola Tinubu, the president-elect, in court.
The All Progressive Congress (APC) has selected no fewer than 13 qualified attorneys to represent the party before the election petition tribunal.
Even though Keyamo supports Tinubu and the APC, some online users have made fun of him for not making the list.
Keyamo responded that as he was still a minister in active ministry, he was not included in the list.
He contends that the Constitution forbids listing a minister in active ministry as a part of a private legal team.
However, he informed that he could join the legal team after May 29, when his tenure must have expired.
“For those who made inquiries, a serving Minister (by our Constitution) cannot be listed in any private legal team, though he/she can support the team in preparation. Hence, the present cabinet ministers who are SANs can only formally join the Election Petition team after May 29th,” Keyamo said in a tweet on Tuesday.
