The Lagos State chapter of Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, and Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, have backed the State’s governor Babatunde Sanwo-Olu’s second term bid.

The MURIC’s director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, said in a statement on Monday, that the governor’s score card reveals giant steps in critical areas.

Akintola said, “The people of Lagos state will join their counterparts from other states of the federation to exercise their franchise in a nationwide governorship election on Saturday, March 11.

“It is our humble submission that Sanwo-Olu is the best option and we urge Lagosians, regardless of religious background, to give him their votes.

“In his first four years, Sanwo-Olu has taken Lagos to the next level. His major achievements being the red and blue rail lines as well as the revamping of water transport with high capacity boats acquired by the Lagos State Ferry Services (LAGFERRY).

“These are very significant steps, particularly for a mega city like Lagos with its perennial traffic congestion.”

Speaking during a press conference at the Chapel of Christ The Light – Ikeja, the chairman of the association, Rev. (Dr.) Stephen Adegbite said that Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat have performed excellently well in the state.

Adegbite said, “Let me say that this endorsement is based primarily on one thing, performance, and nothing else.

“The recently completed multi billion naira Imota Rice Mill project, foreign direct investments coming through the Lekki Free Trade Zone, the recently completed first phase of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit and the commencement of the second phase are commendable.

“Also they have done well in repositioning of the health sector through the building of more health centres at the grassroots, and a free health policy for children bellow 18 years and adults above 65 years of age are not minding your ethnic background or religious affiliations are just few of the things we have seen and consistency is what we need.

These, amongst others, are projects, programmes, and policies capable of creating employment for our teeming youths and helping in strengthening our economic fortunes.”
