“TheOluwaseyi” (@the_oluwaseyi_ on Instagram) is a Georgia-based Nigerian medical student as well as a podcaster. She is the host of “Talk The Talk Podcast With TheOluwaseyi.”
She hails from Ile-Ife, Osun State, currently studying at Caucasus University, Georgia, and intend to specialize in pediatrics.
She related that her childhood was filled with adventures, being a Yorùbá girl born in the Northern part of the country.”I recollect that I had to make people call me ‘Mercy’ because a lot of northerners couldn’t pronounce Oluwaseyi – a Yoruba name – aright.
” As a child we moved around a bit. For example, I was born in Bauchi state and when I was two we moved to Kaduna state.
“Though we were six – our parents and four of us as children – but there had never been a time where it was just us and our parents: we always had relatives from uncles to aunts staying with us. My parents were caring and loving. They oversaw and guided us through everything we did. Nowadays, children are prone to call it ‘overprotective.’
“Being the first child always come with a lot of responsibilities. For example, staying at home meant I had to take care of my siblings and study, and I dispensed these two simultaneously as best as I could.
“I loved to act as a child so we would have our own stage plays which were massive to us as well as full of fun. When guests come over we would present to them.
“As a child, I kept hearing “omo yin yi o le di actress abi lawyer”, meaning your child is likely to be an actress or lawyer. I guess they said this because I was vocal as a child. My dad was not buying none of that, he is a doctor and had his plans for me. When I was about 8, he would take me to work with him. Sometimes, I would be in the operating room observing from afar, so by 15, I was sure I wanted to be a doctor.
“Presently, I am the podcast host of Talk The Talk Podcast With TheOluwaseyi.
“Also, I am currently in medical school, that is, Caucasus University, a private university in Georgia. I intend to specialize in pediatrics.
“Based on my choice of career, my dad definitely influenced my medical career. Podcasting sprouts majorly from my personality as someone who is vocal, so it flows naturally.”
Ms. Oluwaseyi Mercy Omisakin said her craft (podcasting) relies on social media. She terms it” leverage”.
“Social media bring a lot of visibility into content creation, podcast included.”
“As every career has its fulfilling instances, I’d say that my most fulfilling moment for me is seeing people relating to my stories. Of course, I know that we all have our individual peculiarities but then we still have a lot in common. I got to realize that through multitude of replies I get from my audience.”
She said she relaxes by reading a book, go cycling, listen to music and watch movies.
She aspires to be one of the top podcaster in Africa and a top tier doctor.
