The new Chief Imam of Ilobu land, Sheikh Dr AbdulRahman Adewale Abdulazeez was on Sunday turbaned by the Grand Imam of South West, Edo and Delta, Sheikh Musa Animashaun.

The turbaning ceremony, which was held at the Ilobu Central Mosque, had in attendance Islamic scholars from different parts of the country.

Abdulazeez was announced in October as the successor of the late Imam Jamiu Bello, who died in August 2021 after a brief illness.

In his sermon, Guest Lecturer of the day, Sheikh Ismail Kunfayakun urged the people of the community to support the new Grand Imam of the town to ensure he succeeds in his new assignment.

Sheikh Kunfayakun also described the Dr Abdulazeez as a man with outstanding knowledge, whose selection will in no means, bring development to the community.

“I want to beseech all Islamic scholars and elderly persons to support the new Imam. I know Ilobu is a town of scholars but we must all support Dr Abdulazeez to succeed in this new assignment. His selection is the best for Ilobu community but everyone must come together to support him.” Kunfayakun said.

In his acceptance speech, the new Grand Imam of Ilobu appreciated the community for the honour bestowed on him to be the leader of the Muslim community. He promised to be fair and uphold the dictates of Islam.
