Raheem Sterling, an English attacker, would only re-join the team for the 2022 World Cup when his family’s safety is ensured.

On Saturday night, as Sterling was getting ready for the Three Lions’ match against Senegal in Qatar, his Surrey home was broken into.

When the burglary occurred, the Chelsea star’s partner Paige and their children were not at home.

After the upsetting event, the 27-year-old took a flight back to the UK on Sunday to be with his family.

After England’s 3-0 win over Senegal, manager Gareth Southgate said Sterling will be given “as much time as he needs” before re-joining the squad.

Sterling will, however, prioritise his family’s safety before deciding whether to return to Qatar.

A source told The Sun: “Raheem has told everyone, ‘There is no way I’m going anywhere unless I’m 100 percent sure that my family can be kept safe’.”

England will take on France in the World Cup quarter-final on Saturday.
