The terrible electrical event that happened in Zaria last week, according to the management of Kaduna Electric, claimed the lives of six people.
The management also stated that a Kaduna Electric investigation team that met with the grieving relatives of those killed in the event verified the number of fatalities.
Despite reports that indicated that there were more casualties in the tragedy, condolences have already been extended to the afflicted families of the deceased, reiterating that essential steps have been taken to prevent its recurrence.
A statement issued by the company’s Head of Corporate Communication, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, said the company’s Head of Corporate Communication, in Kaduna on Tuesday, stated that in the cause of its investigations, “the company’s officials visited Gwargwaje community and met with families of the affected persons on three occasions since the incident to mourn with them and gather relevant information on the incident.”
According to the statement, the fatalities recorded involved only six persons with five of the deceased persons living on Kagoro Close, Gwargwaje except for one person who resides at the Police Barracks following the direct interaction with victims and community leaders.
Since its last visit to the community on Saturday, the statement explained that it had not received any information about additional casualties in the incident.
The statement said it has gathered detailed information on all those who sustained injuries or lost properties, adding that the management has been liaising with relevant security authorities and the traditional institution in Zaria to discuss the next steps.
Kaduna Electric explained that there was the need to correct the erroneous information being peddled by a section of the media, pointing out that releasing the fatality figure has become necessary to avoid unnecessary tension.
