Three AK-47 rifles, a locally made gun, and other lethal weapons were found during a police search on a political party headquarters in the state’s Isa Local Government Area, according to the Sokoto State Police Command.
This was stated in a press release that Mr. Mohammed Usaini Gumel, the state’s commissioner of police, signed and distributed to journalists in Gusau, the state’s capital.
However, the commissioner avoided naming the political party, instead stating that political thugs were thought to have kept the firearms in advance of the 2023 elections.
According to him, the police would not tolerate any form of disobedience of the law, saying that the security agencies have been mandated to ensure that the citizens respect laws and orders for peace.
“Those intending to use 2023 general elections to perpetrate violence and crimes should be desist from such inhuman acts because the command under my watchful eyes would not tolerate bloodletting before, during campaigns or elections in the state,” he said.
