The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Independent National Electoral Commission in Osun State, Dr Mutiu Agboke, has disclosed that the state has received a total of 5,306 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) ahead of the 2023 general elections
He stated this on Saturday, while leading a campaign organized by the commission in collaboration with a non governmental organization named Power Of PVC Ride to create awareness as regards PVC in the state.
Agboke while describing the readiness of the commission in the coming election said “we have received 5306 BVAS we are ready we are charging, configurating , training our staffs and partnering with stakeholders day in day out and we have always been engaging our stakeholders”
Meanwhile, Adegoke also emphasised on the importance of the intensive campaign in which the commission has embarked as necessity in order to create awareness in the state.
He said “weather we like it or not in Nigeria today non collection of PVC is a big problem for INEC and unfortunately we have discovered that some individuals have gone ahead to be purchasing PVC for the electorate”
“So there need for us to scale up the level awareness to go and collect, for example when I resumed in Osun we 408,197 PVCs and between 12 December and 17 December only 1032 electorate has gone to collect there cards.
“As I speak to you now we have 407,165, if we have over 400000 PVC and only 1000 have gone to collect it means we’ve not done anything, it means people have not really come out. so first thing we have to do is to scale up our the level of awareness.”
The campaign with started around 10a.m. from the state INEC Office at Osogbo/Ibadan express road marched through, Ola-Iya, Odi-Olowo, Isale-Osun, Oja-Oba, Freedom park, oke fia and ended at the Commission office in Osogbo.
However, Akorede Balogun the convener The Power Of PVC Ride also elaborated on the importance and need for the collection of PVC.
Balogun said “aside that people come out to register, they must see the need to go and vote.
“Sensitizing the public about there PVCs, making them understand that registering is not enough, they need to pick there PVCs, picking it is not enough they need to use it, using it is enough, they need to use it wisely”.
