Chukwuemeka Igboanugo, a boxer for Imo State, died during competition, bringing tragedy to the ongoing National Sports Festival in Asaba, the capital of Delta State.
Chukwuemeka passed away as a result of a knockout loss in the 86 kg division to Anambra boxer Prince Gaby Amagor.
When the dead man didn’t recover from being punched in the chin, the referee had to call time on the bout.
The deceased was reportedly hauled out of the ring right away for medical attention before being transferred to the hospital, where his demise was later confirmed, according to a report from the Delta State capital.
