Awelewa, 42, allegedly attempted suicide on Monday at his home in Powerline axis of Ijoka in Akure South Council Area of Ondo State by jumping into a well following the claimed failure of his plan to kill his wife.
It was learned that the man, who had reportedly been out of work for some time, had allegedly attempted to murder his wife last week when he inflicted a serious cut on her neck while she was sound asleep.
The father of four reportedly started acting violently before being restrained by his kids and neighbors who had been alerted by the wife’s loud scream.
”When he heard that his wife and his father-in-law were coming and also heard that his father-in-law had reported his action at the police station, the man moved back with the belief that he wanted to get a chair to sit down.
But what we suddenly noticed was that he stood on the well nearby and jumped inside it. It took some sympathizers a few minutes to rescue him.
With the incident reported at the police station, the police spokesperson in the state, SP Funmilayo Odunlami said she was yet to be informed on the development.
