Doyin Okupe, the Director-General of the Peter Obi presidential campaign committee, was given a two-year prison term by an Abuja-based Federal High Court for violating the money laundering act.

The presiding judge, Ijeoma Ojukwu, announced the verdict on Monday.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had filed 59 counts against Okupe, and the court found him guilty of 26 of them (EFCC).

Okupe received a two-year prison term from Ojukwu for each count.

However, the court said the sentence is to run concurrently.

The judge gave Okupe the option to pay a N500, 000 fine on each of the counts — totalling about N13 million.
